Chapter 3 · AI Product Research and Validation

“The product you choose determines 80% of your success.”

The Product Research Framework

Criteria for a Winning Product

Criteria Target Why It Matters
Price range $15–50 High enough for margin, low enough for impulse buys
Monthly revenue (top 10) $10K–50K each Market demand exists
Reviews (top 10) Under 500 average Room for a new entrant
Weight Under 2 lbs Lower shipping costs
Not seasonal Year-round demand Consistent revenue
Improvement potential Clear customer complaints Opportunity to differentiate
Not dominated by big brands No Nike, Apple, etc. New sellers can compete

AI Product Research Workflow

Step 1: Trend Discovery

Prompt: Analyze current trending product categories for Amazon [marketplace].
Consider: Google Trends data, social media virality, seasonal patterns.
Identify 10 product niches that show growing demand in 2026.
For each, estimate: market size, competition level, typical margins.
Exclude: products requiring certifications, hazardous materials, oversized.

Step 2: Deep Dive Analysis

Prompt: I found these potential products: [list them].
For each product, analyze:
1. Amazon BSR trends (is demand growing or declining?)
2. Competition: how many sellers, average review count
3. Estimated profit margin (assume $X sourcing cost)
4. Differentiation opportunity (based on negative reviews)
5. Patent/trademark risk
6. Difficulty rating (1-10 for a new seller)
Rank them from best to worst opportunity.

Step 3: Review Mining

This is where AI truly shines. Pull competitor reviews and let AI find the gaps:

Prompt: Analyze these customer reviews for [product]:
[paste 20-30 negative reviews from competitors]

Identify:
1. Top 5 recurring complaints
2. Features customers wish existed
3. Quality issues mentioned
4. Packaging or presentation problems
5. Customer use cases the product wasn't designed for
Summarize as actionable product improvement opportunities.
